Classroom Journalism by Empire Report Editor — last modified Sep 08, 2009 12:43 AM
Empire Report's "Classroom Journalism" column celebrates all reports written as part of a class activity or assignment. Some of these reports are attempts to publish informative articles. Others are student commentaries. While each commentary's conclusion is the view of its student author, its research and reasoning is, in part, the result of the author's hard work during the school semester. As such, we ask you to join Empire Report in congratulating the Redwood Empire's student journalists.
Rojo Reports by Empire Report Editor — last modified Jan 24, 2010 09:57 AM
"Rojo Reports" is our collection of news reporting by Michael Aparicio. "I am not a professional journalist," Michael stresses, "I'm someone who considers newsworthy reporting about and for my community important; and in a world where news professionals seem more interested in sensationalizing overexposed issues, and reporting too often focuses on what's announced at staged events, newsworthy reporting about and for my community -- i.e., community journalism -- becomes a form of activism."
The Gadfly by Empire Report Editor — last modified Dec 27, 2009 11:39 PM
"The Gadly" is Michael Aparicio's attempt to comment on education, news media, politics, consumer culture, and anything else worth questioning.

We are particularly interested in the construction of political realities through the media, and seek to develop intellectual resistance to the dominant memes of conventional political discourse.
Ask Jo Anne by Empire Report Editor — last modified Jul 22, 2009 07:24 AM
Hi everyone! My name is Jo Anne Cohn and I've lived in Santa Rosa for the last 12 years. I really enjoy living in Santa Rosa and am committed to making it an even better place to live. I think that one way to do this is by having safe, walkable and friendly neighborhoods. When I read that Santa Rosa has our own on-line newspaper, I volunteered to write a column about neighborhoods and some of the issues our neighborhoods face. I'm hoping that together we can brainstorm ways to improve our neighborhoods and connect with our neighbors.
